Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness reacted to Joe Biden’s inauguration in the most Jonathan Van Ness way.
People across the United States watched on in awe on Wednesday as Biden was inaugurated as president and Kamala Harris as vice-president, marking an end to Donald Trump’s single term in the White House.
Jonathan Van Ness was one of the many people who watched the inauguration at home, and the queer icon decided to share some videos of themself reacting to the historic moment.
They shared a video of Biden being sworn in while Van Ness can be heard sobbing in the background.
“Yas!” Van Ness can be heard shouting in the background. “Yeah, you are Mr President, Biden,” he adds, before commenting on how much he loves Nancy Pelosi’s sunglasses.
The video concludes with the sound of Van Ness squealing with delight at the thoughts of a Democratic president who has promised to champion LGBT+ rights throughout his time in office – something many queer people will relate to.

Van Ness also shared a video of themself on their Instagram Stories where they said they feel like “f**king Elle Woods (from Legally Blonde) when she f**king gives the commencement speech in f**king law school”.

“Like, you guys, this is only the second time in my life – and I’m gonna be 34 in March – the second time that we had a one-term president, and Biden did it,” Van Ness said through tears, followed by a number of “Yas” calls at alternative volumes.
They also recorded themself reacting to Lady Gaga‘s powerful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at the inauguration. The recording of Gaga is interspersed with Van Ness declaring: “Yas Gaga! Come on honey! Yas, yas, yas! We did honey, we brought the stripes and stars, honey! Yes voters!”
Earlier on Wednesday, Jonathan Van Ness shared a video of themself dancing in their dressing gown while making coffee along with the caption: “We are ready for 46. Happy inauguration day!”
They filmed an almost identical video on Thursday morning (21 January) with the caption: “Honey! Executive orders for the win!”, referencing Biden’s decision to sign a host of executive orders on his first day in office, some of which will grant greater protections for LGBT+ Americans.
Van Ness’s excitement at seeing Biden become the 46th president of the United States will be felt by many queer people across the United States, many of whom are delighted that Donald Trump will no longer have the power to change the course of their lives through his regressive policies.
Trump left the White House for the last time on Wednesday morning before flying to Florida with his wife Melania, where he is expected to remain for the foreseeable future.
He became the first sitting president in 152 years to refuse to attend his successor’s inauguration.
