Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash reveals botched runway would’ve been bold statement of trans pride

Bimini Bon Boulash tried and failed to cover their white corset in paint on this week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (21 January) – but they’ve now revealed they intended to coat themselves in the colour of the trans Pride flag.

Tweeting this morning, they shared a photo of how the colour splash effect should have looked.
They captioned the image: “FLY THE FLAG HIGH BABY!
“Being trans is to be yourself and being yourself it beautiful. Trans rights are human rights. Don’t ever forget it!”
Bimini’s white corset was covered in black balloons which, when popped, were supposed to spray paint over the corset. However, the move didn’t go to plan as the balloons sagged and seemed to retain the paint.
They explained on their Twitter after the episode aired: “On that stage the nerves got to me and it flopped but F**K IT!!!!
“We make mistakes, we learn, we grow and we never use latex balloons again!!!! It’s a shame because in my head it was gonna be a moment. PLOT TWIST it wasn’t.
“No matter your gender identity, know that you will forever have my love and support… even if I f**ked up my reveal!”
Drag Race UK star Bimini identifies as ‘a non-binary bad bitch’
The East London queen has been a fan favourite since the series started last week.
In the first episode, Bimini wound up in the bottom two, lip-syncing for their life, after their tribute to Norwich City Football Club was criticised for leaving little to the imagination.
In episode two of the new series, they made an impressive comeback with their performance in Rats: The Rusical as punk-rock rat Depravity, receiving high praise from the judges.
The failed runway reveal was likely what kept them from this week’s top spots.
In another tweet Bimini said: “As a non-binary bad bitch I wanted to celebrate the beauty of trans and non-binary.”
The new US series of the show also features the first openly trans masculine contestant, Gottmik. RuPaul called him “fantastic” and credited him with changing his own idea of what drag is.
The third episode in the series will air on BBC Three next Thursday, putting the queens’ sewing skills to the test for the first time this season.
