Britney Spears’ boyfriend hits out at her ‘controlling’ father Jamie: ‘He’s a total d**k’
Britney Spears’ boyfriend Sam Asghari launched a seething attack at her father Jamie Spears on Tuesday (9 February), branding him a “total d**k”.
His combative comments came in the wake of Framing Britney Spears, a documentary that dived into the rise and fall of the pop princess, examining how she came to be in a conservatorship controlled primarily by her father, Jamie.
Seemingly emboldened by the sweeping public support the programme has sparked for Britney, Asghari broke his silence to hit out against Jamie in an Instagram Story.
“Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way,” the Iranian model wrote.
“In my opinion, Jamie is a total d**k.
“I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time, I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.”
Britney previously expressed interest in starting a family with Asghari, 27, in 2019. But her desire was ground to a halt by Jamie Spears as he has “always been against Britney getting pregnant” while under his management, an insider claimed.
Asghari’s intervention comes amid an attorney-led campaign to end Spears’ conservatorship.
In the throes of her public breakdown in 2008, Spears was catapulted into the arrangement, putting Jamie in control of her finances and well-being, among other things.
Britney sought to remove him from the top post last year, only for judges to keep him on while extending the conservatorship, too.
In an email sent to more than 100 Los Angeles, California, lawyers, Lisa MacCarley urged them to reach out to Los Angeles County probate department and demand “that judge Penny terminate the conservatorship”.
Free Britney members – MacCarley included – packed the streets of outside the LA court in protest as Britney sought substantial changes to her conservatorship.
Her legal counsel claimed at the time that reinstalling Jamie as her conservator would lead to “loss and injury” and that she was “afraid” of her father, adding that the 39-year-old would never perform again as long as Jamie is involved.
In December, Jamie defended his actions as those of a father protecting his daughter from “those with self-serving interests”.
He confirmed he had not spoken to Britney since August, accusing her lawyer of prompting the estrangement.
“I love my daughter and I miss her very much,” Jamie Spears said of his daughter.
“When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally. I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family.”
