Britney Spears ‘working on her own documentary’ as she finally ‘sees a light at the end of the tunnel’
Britney Spears is said to be working on her own documentary, hoping that she will finally be able to tell her story “in her own words”.
This week saw the release of Framing Britney Spears, the highly anticipated New York Times documentary which tells the story of the singer’s tumultuous life.
The FX film detailed how Spears came to be in a conservatorship in 2008, a court-approved arrangement which gives control of her estate and any mental health treatment, among other things, to her father Jamie Spears.
But Page Six reported that it has “confirmation” that Spears is now working on her own documentary with a high-profile female filmmaker.
A source told the publication, however, that Spears is concerned her father may try to take control of the project.
Last year, the conservatorship which Spears has lived under for more than a decade, since publicly struggling with her mental health in 2007, was extended until at least September, 2021.
Framing Britney Spears, left the singer “emotional”.
A source “close” to Britney Spears told Page Six that watching the New York Times documentary was both a hopeful and “emotional” experience for the singer.
They said: “Britney finally feels like there is light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel.
“There are parts of the film that were too hard and emotional for her to watch — the scenes that describe the most difficult times of her life, the relentless media circus and the harsh focus on her as a young mother.
“But, she feels, for the first time in many years, that people are on her side and things will get better for her.”
“She hopes that, because of this, she will be finally be freed from the vice-like grip of her father [Jamie Spears].”
The source added that Spears was “grateful and humbled” by the public support for the “Free Britney” movement.
