Post Malone is set to headline a virtual concert to celebrate Pokémon Day on 27 February, launching a year of celebrations for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary.

The news was announced with a brand new trailer that sees Malone transform into cartoon form before hitting the stage of, presumably, a Pokémon gym.

Malone is the latest musician to join the celebration after The Pokémon Company announced they were also working with Katy Perry, as revealed at the end of their 25th anniversary announcement trailer.

The rapper, whose hit “Sunflower” was used in Into the Spider-Verse, turned 25 himself last year. “I’ve been a fan for such a long time, kind of grew up with it,” he told Billboard. “Celebrating 25 years is a big deal, so we decided to do it together.”

The virtual concert is just the start of a year-long celebration of the franchise which debuted in Japan on the Game Boy in 1996. Pokémon have teamed up with Universal Music Group to create a global music celebration dubbed P25 Music that will include new music from superstar artists.

Each month, Pokémon will revisit the regions of each game, starting with Sword/Shield’s Galar region in March. There will also be themed merchandise, new collections in the Trading Card Game, specific events in the mobile game Pokémon GO and more. For more information and the latest updates visit the official celebration page.

The virtual concert will be shown for free on Pokémon’s YouTube channel, Twitch channel and the 25th anniversary website. Does this mean Malone will perform the PokéRap? Will Katy Perry be the very best like no one ever was? We’ll have to wait and see.

For now, enjoy this trailer for the 25th anniversary of the franchise that’s chock full of references to the games, trading cards and the anime. Can you catch them all?
