Twitch streamer 4Conner issues grovelling apology after homophobic and transphobic messages leak
Twitch streamer 4Conner has quit the platform after offensive Discord messages were leaked online on 20 February.
The streamer, who has more than 44,000 followers on Twitch, has since apologised in a live streamed video, stating: “It is not me, it’s not who I am, it’s who I was.
“I never meant any serious harm. But at the end of the day, I was being racist, transphobic, homophobic, antisemitic.
“It’s really hard for me to associate myself with that because I know how I feel. I know I have hurt a lot of people.”
The messages, sent via the Discord platform from 2018 to 2020, include racist, transphobic and homophobic memes and comments, often using highly offensive language. There are also images of him posing in front of a Confederate flag.
“I will be committing hate crimes towards the African American race,” reads one comment. Another reads: “I just don’t think women are funny and are only good for procreation.”
4Conner has quit both Twitch and Twitter since his livestream apology.
“Stop defending me,” he said in the video. “I deserve all of it. Anyone who says s**t like that deserves it.
“I am sorry to all the people who have interacted with me since I started streaming and all the people who interacted with me before. I did not realise the weight my words carry.”
4Conner grew to prominence in 2018 when he beat League of Legends streamer Tyler1 in a one-on-one battle. Then in August 2020 his following boomed playing Among Us with fellow streamers like Summit1G, Trainwrecks, and hanging out with the One True King collective of streamers.
Many of his peers have responded to the leaks, including Mizkif who 4Conner frequently visited. “I have made the decision, myself, I have talked about it, to Conner, and Conner is no longer allowed at my house, ever again,” said Mizkif on Twitch.
In a Twitlonger, streamer Macaiyala – who was also in the Discord channel – said: “I never spoke up… and yes, I should have and I am fully admitting that. There really isn’t any excuse here. I was wrong not to do so. I was edgy at that time and most of you know this by now.”
As of yet, there is no comment from Twitch as to whether they will take action.
