Snakebit Cyberpunk 2077’s next big patch has been delayed yet again after cyber attack
The latest patch to Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed, with developers CD Projekt Red blaming last month’s hacking attack as the main reason.
Cyberpunk 2077 fans around the world are not happy with the latest announcement that the promised Patch 1.2 has been pushed back. Informing their fans online, they said: “the recent cyber attack on the studio’s IT infrastructure and extensive scope of the update mean this, unfortunately, will not happen – we’ll need some additional time.”
“It’s not the news we enjoy sharing, but we want to make sure we launch this update properly. Stay tuned for more information as the time draws closer. Thank you for your continued patience and support.”
This comes after CD Projekt Red was hit by a targeted cyber attack earlier this month where hackers claimed to have stolen the source code for the game. This now means that the new patch, which was originally scheduled to be released this month, won’t arrive until the second half of March.
While we dearly wanted to deliver Patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077 in the timespan we detailed previously, the recent cyber attack on the studio’s IT infrastructure and extensive scope of the update mean this unfortunately will not happen — we’ll need some additional time. 1/3

Our goal for Patch 1.2 goes beyond any of our previous updates. We’ve been working on numerous overall quality improvements and fixes, and we still have work to do to make sure that’s what you get. With that in mind, we’re now aiming for release in the second half of March. 2/3— Cyberpunk 2077 (@CyberpunkGame) February 24, 2021
Patch 1.2 was meant to be part of an attempt to repair the many bugs and glitches in the game that forced the developers to stop distributing the game digitally, with Sony and Microsoft offering refunds, which led to Sony later on removing the game from their PSN store.
Since its release, the game has been subject to controversy after controversy, leaving fans who were hyped for its release disappointed. From being criticised for its LGBT+ representation and use of trans imagery to the character’s pronouns being tied to the pitch of their voice, with no option for non-binary pronouns, the game has been a recurring nightmare for some.
A lack of trans stories and characters, which has painted a horrible transphobic picture of the game, has been the main issue with users accusing the CDPR of mocking the trans community.
Back on 14 December, CDPR tweeted that the first round of updates was scheduled to be released around Christmas.
The statement went onto say: “Expect more, as we will update frequently whenever new improvements are ready. After the holidays we’ll continue working – we’ll release two large patches starting with Patch 1 in January. This will be followed by Patch 2 in February. They won’t make the game on last-gen look like it’s running on a high-spec PC or next-gen console, but it will be closer to that experience than it is now.”
