Thrilling Fortnite Season 6 launch will bring single player mission for the first time
Season 6 of multiplayer battle royale Fortnite launches next week, bringing a new single player mission to the game for the first time, titled Zero Crisis Finale.
The mission will bridge the gap between Fortnite Season 5. The Zero Crisis and the upcoming Season 6 instalment, and will be available from 16 March.
It will continue the story of Agent Jones, who over the course of Season 5 has been recruiting the greatest hunters across all realities – including famous faces like The Mandalorian, Alien’s Ripley and Kratos from God of War.
The new mission will be available to play for anyone logging in to Season 6 and it’s set to have an explosive impact on the Fortnite story. “The aftermath of this event is sure to shape Reality as we know it,” says Epic, the game’s developer.
Players will also have the option to watch the event instead, with Epic announcing that they’ll “share details soon on how you can watch the global premiere with everyone, beginning with our most ambitious story cinematic yet!”
Previously these sorts of season finale events have required players to log in online at specific times to take part, or watch a stream. This new single player mission is a significant departure, perhaps owing to the popularity of Fortnite, which has at times struggled to handle vast numbers of concurrent players online.
The most recent Marvel event had 15.3 million players online at once.
Epic are also urging players to spend their gold bars before the start of the new season. Gold bar stock is reset between seasons so will be lost if not spent. Thankfully, characters on The Island are offering big discounts, with an increased stock of rare exotic weapons available.
Players will also need to complete any outstanding missions and ensure their Battle Pass is ranked up.
