Halsey met with outpouring of support after quietly announcing her pronouns are she/they
Pop star Halsey has thanked fans for their support after subtly announcing her pronouns as she/they on social media.
The 26-year-old “Bad at Love” singer delivered the news with little fanfare, simply changing the bio sections of her Twitter and Instagram pages on Saturday (13 March).
But it didn’t take long for her millions of fans to notice the change and she was quickly flooded with messages of love and encouragement.
“Thank you,” Halsey wrote alongside a heart in an understated Instagram story on Saturday afternoon, her only public comment on the announcement so far.
The star, who is currently pregnant with her first child, recently opened up about how the pregnancy has shaped her understanding of her gender.
“I’ve been thinking lots about my body. It’s strange to watch yourself change so quickly,” she reflected in February.
“I thought pregnancy would give me very strong, binary feelings about ‘womanhood’ but truly it has levelled my perception of gender entirely.
“My sensitivity to my body has made me hyper aware of my humanness and that’s all. Doing a remarkable thing. And it’s grand. I hope the feeling lasts.”

The bisexual singer is believed to be in a relationship with 37-year-old screenwriter Alev Aydin, who’s also understood to be the father of her child.
Several fans thanked Halsey for going public with her pronouns and giving them and others confidence regarding their own gender presentation.
“I hope Halsey changing their pronouns gives others the confidence to express what also makes them feel comfortable,” one Twitter user wrote. “It’s okay to not fit into the categories society puts you in.”
