Naya Rivera fans ‘heartbroken’ after tragic Glee star left out of Grammys’ in memoriam tribute
Fans have been left angry and disappointed after Naya Rivera was left out of the televised ‘in memoriam’ segment of the Grammys.
Rivera, who in 2010 was nominated for the for the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals while starring in Glee, passed away in July last year at just 33 years old.
While she was included in the online list of more than 1,000 people who have died since the last Grammy Awards, Rivera was missing from the televised list, which included Little Richard, Gerry Marsden, John Prine and Kenny Rogers.
Fans took to social media to share tributes to Rivera, with one writing: “Since the Grammys didn’t mention her I’ll do it. Rest in peace Naya Rivera, you beautiful angel. We love you and miss you so much.”

“The Recording Academy decided to not include Naya Rivera in the on-air ‘in memoriam’ part of the show,” said another.
“I’m disappointed and utterly heartbroken.
“Naya gave SO much to the music world. She deserves a mention AT LEAST. Put some respect on her name.”

Others compared the reaction by the Grammys to Rivera’s death and the death of her Glee co-star Cory Monteith, who was mentioned in the ‘in memoriam’ segment in 2013.
However, the Grammys also caused anger among Glee fans at the time after his name was misspelt in his tribute.
Ryan Murphy has recently been accused of ‘breaking his promise’ to support Naya Rivera’s son.
Naya Rivera, who played the character of Santana Lopez on Glee, tragically died in July, 2020, after she got into difficulty while swimming during a boat trip on Lake Piru, California, and drowned.
After her death, Glee creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan announced that they were setting up a college fund for her son Josey.
But this month, Rivera’s father suggested Murphy hadn’t followed through, claiming that “promises made in public” had faded “with time and excuses”.
Murphy denied the accusations, claiming the three producers were still “committed to creating a college fund for Naya Rivera’s child”, and that they were in “repeated conversations with the appropriate executors of her estate”.
