A drive-in cinema is screening Mean Girls, A Star Is Born and Rocky Horror Picture Show: tickets, dates and more
A huge drive-in cinema called the Luna Drive In is heading to venues across England this spring, and you won’t want to miss it, mainly because they’re screening the iconic comedy Mean Girls as part of their incredible lineup.
The hit film starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried has become a modern classic thanks to its hugely quotable script and witty take on the high school experience.
The drive-in series will take place between 12 April and will finish on 21 June, with seven venues confirmed so far including Birmingham’s NEC, Blenheim Palace and Knebworth House.
Some other LGBT+ favourites on the schedule include Lady Gaga’s Oscar-winning A Star Is Born, the campy Tim Curry-fronted Rocky Horror Picture Show and Elton John’s acclaimed biopic Rocketman.
Also on the bill is Baz Luhrmann’s colourful Romeo + Juliet, which features a queer reimagining of Shakespeare character Mercutio, as well as Luhrmann’s hit film Moulin Rouge! starring all-around icon Nicole Kidman.
Meanwhile Julia Roberts will also be showcased at the height of her power, as both Pretty Woman and Notting Hill feature in the lineup.
Other screenings include cult classics like Back to the Future, Jaws, Pulp Fiction and Jurassic Park.
The films will be screened on outdoor LED screens in HD and each car will be given a speaker box on arrival that sits on your dashboard to avoid having to tune your car radio.
Plus you can also order food and drinks from an app while you’re there and the event has been classified as being “Covid-19 Secure,” including the food stalls and toilet facilities.
The announcement of the drive-in cinema series comes after Boris Johnson revealed the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.
If the plan rolls out as expected, from 12 April outdoor attractions can once again take place in England, including the Luna Drive In.
