Furious Ginny Lemon accuses Drag Race UK of ‘milking them for a non-binary storyline’
Drag Race UK queen Ginny Lemon posted furious rants on Twitter and Instagram claiming they had been excluded from an ‘Ask the Queens’ online event.
BBC and Drag Race UK were hosting #AskTheQueensUK Live this afternoon (22 March) on Twitter, where fans could ask questions to the 12 contestants from season two.
In a series of now-deleted tweets and an Instagram livestream, Ginny called out the show for “blanking and ignoring” them.
Ginny Lemon tweeted: “Requested to talk with Drag Race UK on the Twitter talk, no response, emailed… no response! What the f**k is going on?”
They later added: “Thank you to Drag Race UK for inducing this panic attack. Ignoring me and making me feel an outcast (once again). Hey go f**k yourselves.”
She said she thought she had been excluded from the show and asked organisers to remove her photo from the promotional materials.
In the Instagram live video on their channel, Ginny went in: “They milked me for a nice little non-binary storyline, haven’t they? And that’s it then. Isn’t that nice? Then bam, kicked to the curb. Bam, back to the trash. What’s it about then? Buy the merch darling, it’s about money.”
Shortly after this, Ginny Lemon deleted all of their tweets, saying they were “going to listen to Tori Amos and have a spliff”.
They later confirmed: “It’s ok babz RuPaul just called me up 2 saying that some a**hole at the [BBC] overlooked my emails. That World of Wonder still luv me so no worries I [love] Drag Race UK again.”
Drag Race producers World of Wonder and RuPaul have yet to comment publicly about the furore.
Ginny later tweeted again: “Just found out I took a 30mg not a 15mg last nite. Sorry everyone.”
Ginny Lemon rose to fame on season two of Drag Race UK, which ended last week (18 March). They made history by walking out of the competition before being eliminated.
Some fans present for the ‘Ask the Queens’ online event claimed Ginny had been introduced by never showed.
A spokesperson for BBC told Metro: “All of our series two queens were invited to join the Q&A however, there were technical difficulties which meant Ginny Lemon was unable to join which was mentioned during the live Q&A.”
They thanked fans for their support, tweeting: “Love to me fans for your support during Nana’s rants.”
