Jennifer Coolidge and Kathy Najimy to star in queer Christmas rom-com and maybe gay Santa is real after all?

Just three months into 2021, Netflix has already announced new gay holiday rom-com Single All The Way for this year’s festive season, which will feature icons Jennifer Coolidge and Kathy Najimy.
Providing some light at the end of the tunnel that was 2020, last year saw the release of several LGBT+ holiday films, from the lesbian Christmas rom-com Happiest Season, starring Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis and Aubrey Plaza, to the bizarre Dolly Parton musical Christmas on the Square, and the number of festive queer movies shows no sign of slowing down for 2021.
According to Variety, Single All the Way will star Michael Urie, Philemon Chambers and Luke MacFarlane and will be directed by the Tony Award-winning Michael Mayer, with Jennifer Coolidge, Kathy Najimy, Barry Bostwick and Jennifer Robertson in supporting roles.
The film follows the perpetually single Peter (Urie) who, to avoid his family’s judgement, convinces his best friend Nick (Chambers) to come home with him for the holidays and pretend they are a couple.
However, Peter’s mother sets him up on a blind date with her personal trainer James (MacFarlane), and, of course, gay festive chaos ensues.

Mayer, who won his first Tony Award in 2007 for his hit broadway production of Spring Awakening, said it was “really gratifying to tell a story that happens AFTER coming out”.
Producer Joel S Rice added: “What I love most about this hysterical, moving project is that it is simply a genuine holiday romantic comedy that explores friendship and love between gay men.”
The script for Single All the Way was written by Chad Hodge, who will also executive produce the gay holiday rom-com.
Hodge said: “[When I] sat down to write this movie, I made a list of all the things I personally wanted to see in a holiday rom-com.
“The list ran the gamut, from honestly portraying the uniqueness of gay friendships and relationships, to the often hilarious dynamics of our families, to Jennifer Coolidge.
“I’m so grateful to Netflix for embracing all of it. I can’t wait to see it come to life.”
Sharing the news on Twitter, Urie promised: “Cheer is coming.”
