Britney Spears has formally asked a judge to end father Jamie’s control of her personal life

Britney Spears has formally requested a judge to end her father’s control over her personal life.
The singer, 39, has for more than a decade seen her affairs, which includes her estate, career and mental health, governed by Jamie Spears as part of a court-ordered conservatorship.
This complex legal arrangement was put in place after Britney suffered a mental health crisis in 2008. It mainly consists of two main parts: Someone to manage her finances and someone to control her personal life.
Following her failed bid to stop the 68-year-old from being reinstated into the top finance role, Britney is carrying on the fight by petitioning a California court to have Jamie resign from a chief post, head of person.
The role sees Jamie manage his daughter’s healthcare, medical insurance and contact with others.
Britney is reportedly asking Jamie to be replaced full-time by care professional Jodi Montgomery as head of person instead, according to TMZ.
Montgomery temporarily took on the position in September 2019 after Jamie briefly stepped down due to health issues at the time.
According to paperwork seen by the entertainment outlet, Britney is also asking for the option to end her conservatorship altogether if needed.

An underlined part of the document states: “Petitioner expressly reserves the right to petition for termination of this conservatorship under Probate Code section 1861.
“Nothing in the within petition shall be deemed to constitute a waiver of that right.”
The petition understood to be filed to a Los Angeles judge comes ahead of a 27 April hearing.

Court documents also detail just how influential the role of head of person is.
The individual has the power to limit those who visit Britney, appoint security guards, contract medical staff and recruit caretakers. Britney would still have access to her lawyers, however.
Britney’s request notes that Jamie would remain involved in her life still as co-conservator of her estate.
He would shoulder the role of managing her financial matters with the Bessemer Trust, an external management firm first appointed in November 2020 after Britney said she was “afraid of her father” if he remained in control over her personal life.
