How to watch We Are Lady Parts, the hit Muslim punk band series that’s set to be your new obsession
We Are Lady Parts is a brand new series about a Muslim female punk band in London, and – trust us – you’re going to love it.
The six-part, music-themed comedy is heading to Channel 4 in the UK and streaming service Peacock in the US this spring.
It follows a four-piece punk group and their manager who are “creating their own identities in a world determined to do it for them.”
The show explores the highs and lows of punk band Lady Parts, which we see through the eyes of Amina Hussain, a geeky microbiology PhD student who’s on the lookout for love.
The show stars an ensemble of new British acting talent including Anjana Vasan, Sarah Kameela Impey, Juliette Motamed, Faith Omole and Lucie Shorthouse, who is also starring in the upcoming film adaption of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
It will feature original punk songs and cover tracks that have been written by show creator Nida Manzoor alongside her siblings, who have drawn on their own experiences of the richness and diversity of contemporary London.
It’s based on a 2018 short film titled Lady Parts, also written and directed by Maznoor who previously worked on the likes of Doctor Who.
The plot is filled with twists, turns and romance. The band’s fierce front woman Saira sees something in Amina that the others can’t, and when she finds out Amina fancies drummer Ayesha’s brother, she offers to fix them up on a date if she agrees to join the band. The newcomer is soon swept up in their joyful, anarchic energy and punk spirit.
Amina becomes torn between two different worlds, that of her more strait-laced uni friends, represented by her best mate Noor, and the new, exciting world of Lady Parts.
The six-part series is due to be released in spring, with an official date to be announced, via Channel 4 in the UK and streaming service Peacock in the US, which you can sign up to at peacocktv.com.
