Demi Lovato has come out as pansexual, saying she is “part of the alphabet mafia and proud” of it.

The singer, 28, said she has long been “super closeted off” due to her staunchly religious upbringing, making her feel “shame” about being attracted to women.

But, like so, so, so many queer people in the world, the moment she realised she was attracted to women ā€“ seeing Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar kiss in Cruel Intentions.

Appearing onĀ The Joe Rogan ExperienceĀ Saturday (27 March), Lovato opened up about being “so fluid” and how she’s attracted to “anything, really”.

When Joe Rogan asked whether the term “pansexual” fits her best, she energetically said yes.

“In this moment I want to adopt [children] for sure,” Demi Lovato explained.

“I also donā€™t know if Iā€™m going to end up with a guy, so I canā€™t really see myself even getting pregnant.

“I donā€™t know. Iā€™m so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off.”

“You mean sexually fluid?” RoganĀ asked. “You like girls? You like boys?”

“Yeah, anything, really,” Demi Lovato responded.

“What do they call that?” Rogan asked, “Like pansexual or something like that?”

“Yeah, pansexual,” she replied.
The “Dancing with the Devil” hitmaker added that her sexual awakening was the iconic kiss between Gellar and Blair inĀ Cruel Intentions.

But growing up in a Christian household in the lone star state, she came to feel shame about her sexuality.

“I felt a lot of shame because growing up in Texas as a Christian, thatā€™s very frowned upon,” she recalled.

“Any attraction that I ever had toward a female at a young age, I shut it down before I even let myself process what I was feeling.”

“Iā€™m part of the alphabet mafia and proud,ā€ she joked. “Why canā€™t we just say queer, yā€™all?

“Nah, Iā€™m just kidding.”

Demi Lovato also reflected on her engagement to actor Max Enrich ā€“ which she called off just two months after announcing they’re getting hitched.

“I was engaged to a man last year,” she said.

“I totally thought Iā€™d be married, maybe pregnant right now, and thatā€™s not the case, so Iā€™ve just stopped kind of attaching myself to.

“I know that my life is not going according to my plan.”
