Amanda Bynes’ lawyer shares rare update on former Nickelodeon star: ‘She’s doing great’
Amanda Bynes, former Nickelodeon star, is currently “doing great” and living a quiet life away from the limelight, her lawyer has said.
The 34-year-old star of beloved children’s classics such as The Amanda Show, since retired, is looking forward to her 35th birthday this Saturday (3 April).
Her lawyer, David Esquibias, told People that she “lives by the beach and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes”.
“She looks forward to celebrating her birthday with family and friends,” he added.
Bynes, who is currently engaged to Paul Michael, has vastly shied away from the spotlight after announcing an acting hiatus in 2010 and being charged with driving under the influence, among other incidents and struggles with substances, in 2012.
She was placed in a temporary conservatorship shortly after, with her parents managing her affairs.
But for Bynes, now far removed from television screens and paparazzi flashes, a ginger return to public life as she seeks to rebuild and pursue her passions, Esquibias explained.
Her lawyer’s occasional statements to the press, as well as her sparingly used social media platforms, have become some of the only glimpses into the Hairspray star’s once highly-publicised life.
“Amanda is very entrepreneurial,” Esquibias told People in October 2020.
“She is investigating fragrances. She is now considering perfume in addition to a clothing line.”
The attorney added that Bynes, who has been sober for some seven years, is pursuing another degree at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California, where she earned her associate’s degree in 2019.
Bynes even dropped a song – the hip-hop track “Diamonds” – earlier this year.
The 58-second teaser track was uploaded to her YouTube account and, in what is truly the most relatable thing ever said, was the product of pure boredom, her lawyer explained to E!.
“Amanda is stuck at home and bored like everyone else,” said Esquibias.
“She is just having fun, trying to lighten the mood.”
