Nintendo have announced details of a brand new Switch Lite blue console, and it’s being released soon.

The gaming giant will add a blue edition to the Nintendo Switch Lite palette from 7 May in Europe or 21 May in the US.

Fans can get their hands on the blue console from the official Nintendo website or Amazon, Currys PC World and Game.

It’s expected to be around the £199 mark for the stand alone console and £219 for the bundle version, similar to the previously released colours.

People were hit with a burst of nostalgia when they first saw it, as it reminded many of the GameCube, Nintendo’s hit 2001 console.

One person tweeted: “A new Nintendo Switch Lite colour launches next month, Nintendo has announced. It says it’s blue, but frankly, that noise is wrong. It’s GameCube purple.”

However, others said that it is definitely navy blue, not purple.

The Nintendo Switch Lite models were designed specifically for handheld play, making it easy for players to bring a diverse collection of games with them wherever they go.

It followed up the popular Nintendo Switch console which is available in neon red and blue, and has seen a number of special releases including Mario and Monster Hunter Rise editions.

The Switch Lite is home to games including Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which became many people’s obsession after its release during the first lockdown in 2020.

It was recently announced that the game has the best first year sales of any Nintendo game in Europe, with more than 7 million copies sold across the continent since the game’s release on 20 March 2020.

Other popular games now available for the hand-held console include Mario Kart, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Minecraft, Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo are also releasing some new titles this spring with New Pokémon Snap coming out on 30 April, which lets players explore unknown islands to snap in-game photos of Pokémon.

Another upcoming addition is Miitopia on 21 May, which allows players to star in an adventure alongside their family and friends to bring down the face-stealing Dark Lord.

The Nintendo Switch Lite in blue will be released on 7 May in Europe and you can buy it from Nintendo, Amazon, Currys PC World and Game or 21 May in the US from Nintendo and Amazon.
