Bobby Brown blames Whitney Houston’s ‘son’ Nick Gordon for her and her daughter dying
Bobby Brown has suggested Nick Gordon had a role to play in the deaths of his ex-wife Whitney Houston and their daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
In an episode of the Facebook series Red Table Talk, Brown said he suspects Gordon, who was engaged to Bobbi Kristina at the time of her death, supplied the drugs that led to the deaths of both Houston and her daughter. Gordon died from a heroin overdose in January 2020.
Brown told hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Adrienne Banfield-Norris and Willow Smith that Gordon “was the only one there with both situations with my ex-wife and with my daughter and they both died the exact same way”.
“This is my opinion of who I think this young man was,” Brown said. “Being around my daughter and being around my ex-wife, I think [Gordon] was more so a provider of, you know, party favours.”
Brown explained that he had planned to confront Gordon about the death of his daughter, but he was “in rehab at the time” when Gordon died. He said: “I had planned on, once I left rehab, to approach the young man just to find out how my daughter was in her last days.
“But no, I never got a chance to find out from him or talk to him.”
Whitney Houston raised Gordon from the age of 12 and said he was “like a son” to her. In the months after her death, it emerged he was engaged to Bobbi Kristina, with the pair denying their relationship was incestuous as Houston had never formally adopted him.
In February 2012, Whitney Houston was found unconscious and submerged in a bathtub in her suite at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. A coroner report said she drowned, naming cocaine use a contributing factor in her death.
In January 2015 Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Georgia home and was placed in a medically-induced coma. She never regained consciousness, and died in June of that year. A medical report in 2016 confirmed Bobbi Kristina, 22, died as a result of immersion in water and drug intoxication.
In November 2016, a US judge ordered Nick Gordon to pay $36 million for the wrongful death of Bobbi Kristina after her family accused the man of giving her a “toxic mixture” of drugs which they said led to her death.
However, Gordon was never criminally charged over her death, and there were no charges filed against Gordon concerning Houston’s death either.
Brown was married to Houston from 1992 until 2007. Their relationship was notoriously turbulent, with Houston accusing Brown of being abusive towards her. Despite being charged with battery after a 2003 incident, Brown denies he was violent and denies introducing the late star to drugs.
During the Red Table Talk, Bobby Brown also opened up about the recent passing of his son, Bobby Brown Jr, in November. The autopsy revealed his son overdosed on cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol.
But Brown told the Red Table Talk that he believed his son’s situation was different than those of his ex-wife and daughter. He said his son “wasn’t a user” and would “experiment with different things”. He said his long history with drugs and alcohol abuse led his son to feel like he experiment with substances, admitting “I feel guilty about that”.
