Britney Spears addresses career break and explains cryptic Instagram posts
Britney Spears opened up about her career break and cleared up the real meaning behind one of her more cryptic Instagram posts.
Spears has been on an “indefinite work hiatus” since her Las Vegas residency Domination was cancelled in January 2019. Her last studio album was 2016’s Glory.
And as long as her father, Jamie, remains in control of her career as her conservator, she has vowed never to perform again.
But as her much-publicised legal battle with her father continues, the 39-year-old had a simple message for her fans: “I’m totally fine.”
In an Instagram questions and answers session Friday (16 April), Spears told fans: “I’m extremely happy. I have a beautiful home, beautiful children. I’m taking a break right now because I’m enjoying myself.”

Britney Spears’ Instagram has become the stars’ main source of communication with her fans – prompting many to probe her solitary dance routines and flowery inspirational quotes for deeper, hidden meaning.
Free Britney fans have become notorious for alleging otherwise innocuous posts are cries for help, for example, a recently uploaded photo of a red refrigerator.
Not quite, Spears clarified. “Honestly I just thought it was cool,” she said. “I thought it was vintage, it was red and just really cool.”
She also added that, yes, she does get dizzy when she twirls around her living room – which she often does between pretending to walk on a runway, alone.
“Yes, I get extremely dizzy, but I’m a dancer so as long as I have a focus point for my head, as I turn as long as I keep finding that spot, usually in the end it’s not as bad,” she explained.
Concern over the “Toxic” hitmaker’s wellbeing has surged following the release of Framing Britney Spears earlier this year.
The New York Times documentary charted Spears turbulent career in sobering detail, including the belligerent treatment she suffered from the press and how she came to have her life under the control of others.
It was an “embarrassing” documentary that made Spears “cry for two weeks”, she said on Instagram.
