NieR Replicant PS5: New trailer shows off extra content including epic boss battle
A new trailer has been released showing off extra content added to upcoming Square Enix PS5 game NieR Replicant.
Full name NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, it’s a remaster of the Japanese version of the original NieR.
As well as a fresh look at gameplay, the new trailer details new content being added to this new release.
The biggest of all is a new episode named “Mermaid” that will take place in a wrecked ship and feature an all-new boss battle.
Also included will be extra dungeons from “15 Nightmares” that were previously only available as downloadable content for the Japanese release of NieR. They’re a series of challenging dungeons that will unlock extra weapons and costumes.
Lastly, in a nod to NieR: Automata, select background tracks from that game’s soundtrack will be available to switch to after your first playthrough.
A number of cast members from Automata will also be featured in Replicant and a free “4 YoRHa” costume pack will be downloadable to swap character skins to that game’s protagonists.
From the mind of famed game director Yoko Taro, NieR Replicant was originally released in 2010 in Japan by developer Cavia, with an alternative version released that same year in the West featuring an older protagonist.
This PS5 remaster will finally bring the Japanese content to the West after the huge success of the game’s sequel NieR: Automata from Bayonetta developer Platinum Games.
Many tweaks to the gameplay have been made to bring the original release in-line with Automata, with supervision from members of the Platinum team.
The game is set in a grim distant future of ruined technology, with the protagonist seeking the cure for a strange illness that afflicts his sister.
Gameplay is a mix of action combat and shooter, with heavy role-playing mechanics.
NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… is released on 23 April for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and PC via Steam.
