Ellen DeGeneres slammed for drinking ‘three weed drinks’ then driving wife Portia di Rossi to hospital

Ellen DeGeneres has been slammed online for admitting to drinking “three weed drinks”, then driving wife Portia di Rossi to hospital.

The talkshow host appeared on a cannabis-themed episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live to mark the “high holiday” 4/20 on Tuesday (20 April).

During the episode she recalled the time she rushed her wife to hospital when she needed an emergency appendectomy.

DeGeneres said: “Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they’re called Cann, and they have CBD or THC — I don’t know what the good thing is.”

THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis, which makes people high. Cann’s range of drinks contain between two and five milligrams of THC.

“I drank one, and I didn’t feel anything, so I drank three, and then I took two melatonin sleep pills,” she continued.

“And I’m laying in bed, and I realize [Portia’s] not in bed.”

DeGeneres went to look for her wife, and found her “moaning” on the floor, so she “rushed her to the emergency room”.

When Kimmel asked if she had driven di Rossi herself, DeGeneres replied: “I did.”

She added: “I mean, I kicked in, like my adrenaline, because I just had to rush her there.

“It’s probably not safe. I shouldn’t be saying any of this.”

In California, where DeGeneres and di Rossi live, it is illegal to drive under the influence of any drug.

Viewers took to Twitter to express their frustration that DeGeneres would admit to, and laugh about, driving under the influence on TV.

One wrote: “Serious??? WTF?? You’re bragging about this. I used to love you, but more and more see what an entitled a*s you are!!!

“You could’ve killed someone driving high. I lost someone I loved to a drunk driver. I’m disgusted by this. Hire a driver with your millions.”

“This isn’t funny,” said another. “It’s insanely irresponsible. People could have died. NEVER get high and drive.”

Others called for the “police to inquire”, and one Twitter user, referencing the recent scandal surrounding DeGeneres, wrote: “She didn’t let a staff member drive Portia because Ellen didn’t want to be in the same car as a peasant.”
