Hidden identity of Ratchet & Clank’s mysterious new femme fatale finally revealed

Insomniac Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

The female Lombax in forthcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has now been revealed. Meet Rivet!

Insomniac, the developer behind the character platformer, has released a new gameplay trailer and blog with fresh information.

Rivet is described as “a Lombax resistance fighter from another dimension, where organic life is hunted by the evil Emperor Nefarious”.

It seems we’ll be playing as Rivet in the game, although how she may differ from Ratchet is still unclear. With either character, the game will have the typical mix of challenging platforming and zany weaponry the series is known for.

The gameplay trailer shows new locations like Nefarious City, as well as dimensional twists on Sargasso and Torren IV from previous games.

The story sees regular antagonist Dr Nefarious sucking the titular duo into an alternative dimension, with gameplay seeing them split apart and using rifts to jump between worlds. Hence the title, Rift Apart.

Those rifts also play a part in showing off the fast loading times of the PlayStation 5’s powerful SSD, making this exclusive a must-have for owners of the new console.

Besides, from the trailer alone, the graphics rival the top animation studios.

The new trailer also features a song by the rock band DEVO. The band’s co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh has written the soundtrack to the new game.

His work includes PlayStation titles like the Crash Bandicoot original trilogy and the Jak & Daxter series, as well as the film Thor: Ragnarok. You can hear clips of the Rift Apart soundtrack on the PlayStation blog.

Additionally, the game has the series’ first ever photo mode.
