Hit musical Dreamgirls to tour the UK for the first time ever – and we’re telling you, we’re going
Hit musical Dreamgirls is to tour the UK for the first time ever – and we’re telling you we are going!
The UK tour of Dreamgirls will open on 14 December, 2021, before visiting venues throughout 2022.
Tickets for the first run of shows go on sale now via ATGTickets and Ticketmaster.
The story follows Effie, Lorrell and Deena, three talented young singers in the turbulent 1960s, a revolutionary time in American music history.
Named the Dreams, they embark upon a musical rollercoaster ride through a world of fame, fortune and the ruthless realities of show business, testing their friendships to the very limit.
It features classic songs including “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going”, “One Night Only”, “Listen” and of course the musical’s title track.
Nicole Raquel Dennis will play Effie White in the UK tour of Dreamgirls who’s previously appeared in Dear Evan Hansen and Waitress as well as reaching the final of ITV’s The Voice.
The production is based on the original Broadway show which opened in 1981 and starred icons Jennifer Holliday, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine.
It won six Tony Awards and two Grammy Awards and has since been adapted into a major motion picture starring Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson in an Oscar-winning role.
The musical finally opened on the West End in 2016 with Glee‘s Amber Riley starring as Effie for which she received a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
The upcoming UK tour is heading to the likes of Bristol, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester, Blackpool, Leeds, Glasgow and Birmingham.
Tickets go on general sale at 10am on Tuesday, 27 April via ATGTickets.com and ticketmaster.co.uk.
