Gal Gadot to star in ‘beautiful and complex’ queer sci-fi thriller
Gal Gadot’s production company has secured the rights to new novel Meet Me in Another Life – and she will star in the lead role.
Catriona Silvey’s debut novel published in the US last week (27 April) by HarperCollins follows Thora and Santi, a man and a woman who continue to meet in numerous versions of reality. It will be published in the UK by HarperVoyager later this year on 8 July.
Thora had recently fallen in love with another female student, but everything changes when she meets Santi. A tragic accident ends their story prematurely – but this isn’t the last time they meet.
In the various realities they inhabit, they have different relationships: a teacher and a student; a cynic and a believer; a caretaker and a dying patient; even a father and a daughter.
Eventually, the different realities begin to blur together and the pair realise they need to discover the truth about their connection before their numerous lives all come to an end.
Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano’s production label Pilot Wave and Atlas Entertainment bought the rights to Catriona Silvey’s novel and later confirmed Gadot’s role on Instagram.
The post on Pilot Wave’s Instagram stated: “Very excited to partner with our friends at Atlas Entertainment to bring this book to the big screen – Meet Me in Another Life – written by the talented Catriona Silvey.”
Gadot and Varsano told Deadline: “Catriona’s characters are beautifully explored and deeply complex – their reincarnations sometimes bordering on taboo – that the payoff of their self-discovery feels genuine and earned.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Chuck Roven and Richard Suckle to bring this story with many layers on the big screen.”
Silvey responded to the deal: “As a writer, I’m so inspired by the storytelling possibilities of film.
“I’m beyond thrilled that a team that has been involved in some of my absolute favourites will be giving my book a whole new life in another medium.”
At the time of writing, the novel is in the top spot on Amazon’s New Releases in LGBT Literary Fiction.
Gal Gadot came under fire last year for a tone-deaf video of several A-list actors covering “Imagine” by John Lennon at the beginning of the pandemic, while they were all self-isolating in their Beverley Hills mansions. Other celebs got involved by hilariously trolling Gadot on social media, with everyone from John Mayer to Trixie Mattel to Joe Lycett weighing in.
The Wonder Woman star started her production company with her husband Jaron Varsano in 2019. The company already has a number of films lined up, including Netflix’s upcoming spy thriller Heart of Stone and My Dearest Fidel which explores a journalist’s secret liaison with Fidel Castro.
It is also working on two upcoming films which will also star Gadot: Irena Sendler and Apple TV+’s Hedy Lamarr.
