The Nintendo Switch has introduced an £8 calculator app, and everyone is taking the p**s

Calculator app Switch

A calculator app is now available to download on your Nintendo Switch. Yes, really.

We’re obviously deeply excited, because it’s the app we’ve all been hankering for since the release of the Switch four years ago.

Thanks to developer Sabec, you can now whack out some sums on your console for the price of £8.

Have you ever wanted to tally up your wins on Mario Kart? Calculate the odds of finding a certain villager in Animal Crossing? Add up your photo score by hand in Pokémon Snap?

Well now you can do that directly on the console. It’s almost as if there isn’t a free calculator on the smartphone you probably already own.

The official description on the eShop describes the Calculator app as “a scientific calculator with a clear easy-to-read multi-line display, which should help with those not-so-easy-to-do maths problems.

“Calculator has an appealing modern and practical design, sure to be popular with all students and engineers.”

So for all you students taking your Switch with you to class, you can now prove it’s for educational purposes and not because you’re visiting Tom Nook under your desk.

You can use the app in handheld mode, tabletop mode and in docked mode, so you can really admire the fidelity of those numbers and functions on your TV screen.

Sadly, though, this is a single-player only game.

It also only supports English, which is odd for an app that’s purely made up of numbers.

As you might expect, Twitter ripped the app a new one, making joke after joke about the hit new “game”.

Could this be the game of the year? Did you get the digital or physical version? How exactly do you complete the game?

And most importantly, when will Calculator be playable in Smash Bros? Here are some of the funniest calculator takes:
