One fan wrote: “It’s the vocals for me!!”

Another added: “You were SPECTACULAR!!!!!” which somehow feels like an understatement.

The 1994 Brodaway revival of Grease debuted on 11 May, 1994 and became a roaring success, lasting for 1,505 performances.

Billy Porter played Teen Angel, who was famously played by Frankie Avalon in the 1978 film adaptation.

The hugely successful revival starred Ricky Paull Golden as Danny, Susan Wood as Sandy, and lesbian icon Rosie O’Donnell as Rizzo. Brooke Shields later joined the production as Rizzo after O’Donnell left.

Will & Grace legend Megan Mullally also starred in the musical as Marty.

Porter went on to have blaze a trail in musical theatre, originating the role of Lola in the Broadway smash Kinky Boots.

In more recent times, Porter has made a name for himself with his role as Pray Tell on Pose – and he is widely loved by queer people for serving some of the red carpet’s most iconic looks.
