Cara Delevingne is selling NFT art about her vagina

Cara Delevingne is auctioning off an NFT artwork about her vagina to raise money for women’s rights and fighting the climate crisis.
Recent months have seen an explosion in NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, which identify “original” digital works with a permanently-attached and unique token which acts as a “certificate of authenticity”.
Anything can be sold as an NFT, including photos, videos, memes or even tweets, and the trend has seen celebrities making massive amounts of money by jumping on the bandwagon – just this week, model Emily Ratajkowski sold a photo of herself for $175,000 via Christie’s.
Now, Delevingne has teamed up with anonymous artist Chemical X, who says he has “has no desire to create a style within which he could be trapped, compelled to become a performing monkey, a slave to his own hand”, to create an NFT artwork about her vagina.
The 28-year-old gender-fluid model and actor, who came out as pansexual in June, 2020, appears naked from the waist up, as she says: “My first word was ‘mine’.
“To me, that means something that is most mine, my vagina. I own it. It’s mine and no one else’s.
“I choose what I do with it. And no one can take that away from me.”

While most NFTs are part of the Ethereum blockchain, the artwork is first in the world to be minted on Bitcoin.
Delevingne is the first famous face to take part in Chemical X’s five-part digital artwork series #1, which will also include Fatboy Slim, Dave Stewart and Orbital, with the last of the five created by Chemical X alone.
According to the artist, Delevingne vagina piece is “a powerful yet personal statement of intention”.
Proceeds from the NFT will go to The Cara Delevingne Foundation, to support “protecting the climate”, the LGBT+ community and “the rights of vulnerable women across the globe”.
The auction begins at 9pm BST on Saturday, 22 May, but offers can be made online ahead of the auction. The minimum offer is 1140 stacks token (STX), or £1075.
