The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 update adds 60FPS upgrade, meaning Ellie’s scowling is even more realistic

The Last Of Us Part II

Naughty Dog has announced a new free patch for The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 5 (PS5) to improve the frame rate.

The patch, numbered 1.08, adds a new toggle in the options to target either 30FPS (as originally on PS4) or 60FPS to make use of the new consoleā€™s power.

That improved frame rate compliments other features the PlayStation 5 allows for, like improved loading times and an enhanced resolution.

Naughty Dog director of communications Arne Meyer took to the PlayStation Blog to announce the news.

ā€œSo far 2021 has been incredible, and supremely humbling, as The Last of Us Part II has been recognized with over 300 Game of the Year Awards, an unprecedented achievement,ā€ he said, also noting their BAFTA and Golden Joystick awards.

ā€œWeā€™ve received a ton of fan mail letting us know how meaningful The Last of Us series has been for you and weā€™ve been astounded by all the excellent fanart, cosplay, and tattoos you have been sharing with us.ā€

Looking ahead, he said: ā€œThe team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and weā€™re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. Weā€™ll let you know when weā€™ve got more news to share!ā€

What exactly that news might be is unknown. Naughty Dog are rumoured to be working on a new Uncharted game, as well as a PlayStation 5 remake of the first The Last Of Us.

A plot for a third The Last Of Us game has also already been written, but is yet to begin production. Until then, we still have the HBO show to look forward to.

A new trailer for the game has been released to celebrate the patch. Check it out below.
