After 16 years, we’re finally going to get a new TimeSplitters game as Free Radical Design reforms

The popular first-person shooter game TimeSplitters is officially making its return, as announced yesterday (20 May) by publisher Deep Silver.
It’s been 21 years since the first TimeSplitters game was released on PlayStation 2, and 16 years since TimeSplitters: Future Perfect dropped – and now it’s coming back. The time-travelling shooter game is being redeveloped at the newly reformed Free Radical Design, who originally created the first game.
Spawning two sequels after the original release, TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect were both a huge success. A fourth game (TimeSplitters 4) was in the works but never came into fruition as the studio started having difficulties.
Steve Ellis; the development director at Free Radical Design said: “To finally be able to confirm that the studio has been formed and that we have a plan for the next TimeSplitters game is incredible. While we cannot tell you anything more at the moment, we look forward to sharing information in the future.”
Free Radial Design aren’t just known for being the geniuses behind TimeSplitters but also the Second Sight, Haze, Crysis and Warface franchises.

After being bought by Crytek in 2009, Free Radial Design was renamed Crytek UK, before being sold to Koch Media. In 2014, the studio shut down and was revamped again into Dambuster Studios. However, the original founders behind the game decided to reform the studio and return to their original name. Its publisher Deep Silver has claimed the studio will commence development on the next TimeSplitters game in the coming months.
