Life Is Strange developer’s landmark trans game Tell Me Why is available for free this Pride Month
DontNod’s trailblazing game Tell Me Why is now available for free for Pride Month.
Throughout June, you can get the game for nothing on PC or Xbox One, with permanent access even after the month is over.
Tell Me Why features a lead trans character, Tyler, as the game explores a pair of twins with supernatural abilities investigating a murder case.
In a blog post about the news, the team noted how they have been “humbled by and deeply grateful for the many gamers – especially trans and queer gamers – who have found understanding and hope in our game.”
“Our intention in making Tell Me Why free for June 2021 is both to allow even more people to access the game and to encourage our players to spend their money in places that will directly affect trans and queer communities.”
Their suggestions include supporting other trans interaction fiction, including Ikenfell and If Found that were both among the top LGBT+ games of 2020.
Alternatively, they suggest supporting a trans charity or person directly.

Tell Me Why won jointly at the GLAAD awards for Outstanding Video Game (along with The Last of Us Part II). It was also nominated at the BAFTA Games awards and won at the Gayming Magazine Awards.
In an interview with Pink News, August Aiden Black – the voice actor behind Tyler – discussed having the “coolest job ever”.
On the importance of trans representation in games he said: “We want more representation…and something they did so beautifully with Tyler is they made a full character that wasn’t just about being trans…this is just a part of us and just a part of a character that can have a well rounded individual attached.”
