Long-awaited game God of War: Ragnarok delayed until 2022, but it will still come to PlayStation 4
The next God of War game, Ragnarok – originally slated for 2021 – has now been pushed back to next year.
The long-awaited sequel to the hit 2018 PS4 reboot of the series will continue the story of Kratos and his son Atreus.
Ragnarok has been confirmed as coming to both PlayStation 5 and PS4.
The news came in an interview with Hermen Hulst, the Head of PlayStation Studios, on the PlayStation Blog.
This was later confirmed by the Sony Santa Monica Twitter account.
“We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families,” it reads. “With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022.”

Hulst also confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West is expected to release this holiday season, though that “isn’t quite certain yet”.
Both that and God of War have been affected by the pandemic and access to performance capture and talent. God of War began a little later, hence the decision to push back the release.
The interview confirmed that PS4 is still a priority for Sony, with the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 all due out on both Sony’s previous console and the PlayStation 5.
Hulst also reiterated, from a previous interview, that PlayStation Studios currently have over 25 titles in development of which almost half are brand new IPs.
That includes Sony Bend Studios, who previously worked on zombie open-world action game Days Gone. Despite pitching for a sequel, they’re now working on something brand new “that they’re very, very passionate about”.
PC gaming is additionally a new pillar for PlayStation Studios to reach new audiences, though Hulst says that PlayStation consoles remain the best place to play new games.
“Releasing games on PC will not come ever at the expense of building an exciting lineup of great console games,” he says.
