Willow Smith tries vaginal steaming with her mum and grandma
Willow Smith took motherly bonding to the next level as she joined her mum and grandma for an on-camera vaginal steaming session.
Willow, her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris got the full Goop experience on Red Table Talk, a web series where three generations of the Smith family tackle “taboo” subjects.
No topic is off limits – which is why this week’s episode saw the trio pop a squat in the name of womb wellness.
“I’ve gathered you all here today to do something which is a Red Table Talk first, and it’s very important,” Jada announced. “We’re going to steam our vaginas.”
They began their gynaecological exploration by donning purple flowing robes and adding cleansing herbs to the water, before each lowering themselves onto three steamy pink thrones.
“What sensation are you guys getting, sitting here?” Jada asked her mother and daughter as they poached their vulvas together.
“Definitely a lot of warmth,” Willow replied. “Yeah. This is real queen throne action right here. This is what I love,” Jada said.
“You know, steaming is an ancient practice that originated in Asia and Africa and it was originally used to cleanse yourself after you finish menstruating,” she continued.
“I’ve read somewhere that vaginal steams are like an aphrodisiac… They say there’s lots of health benefits, but for me, I just feel like spending time with your vagina just to just show it appreciation and care.”
According to Medical News Today, “there is not any scientific evidence to prove that vaginal steaming works. No research studies have tested vaginal steaming or its benefits”.
The outlet also reports that there is a risk of burning delicate tissues and other of other dangers.
As the family steamed their bits they mused on the discomfort many women feel talking about their nether regions, saying: “We have to change the narrative around the vagina”.
“I’m sure boys sit around all day talking about their penises,” Jada commented as Willow rolled her eyes. “I don’t want to hear nothing about this show being TMI and all that.
“If you can listen to all these rap artists talk and abuse the vagina you sure as hell can watch women give it honour and praise and spent quality time.”
Things took an even more intimate turn as Jada revealed she underwent “vaginal rejuvenation” treatment years ago to help with bladder issues.
“When I tell you my yoni is like a 16-year-old, I’m not kidding. It looks like a little beautiful peach,” she said.
In previous episodes of Red Table Talk, Willow has opened up to her family about being polyamorous and loving men and women “equally”.
