Elton John announces ‘final tour dates ever’: ‘I’m going to go out in the biggest possible way’

Elton John has added a range of new dates to the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, meaning his last ever concert will now take place in 2023.
The trailblazing singer-songwriter first announced his farewell tour in 2018, telling fans at the time that it would be his last major outing as he wanted to spend more time with his children. However, numerous dates on the tour were ultimately postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, Elton John has added five new UK dates and numerous additional concerts to the American leg of the tour.
Unveiling the new dates, John said: “Hello, all you wonderful fans out there. I’m coming to you to day with an announcement I’ve been working towards for, well, all my life: the shows that I announce today will be my final tour dates ever in North America and Europe.
“I’m going to go out in the biggest possible way, performing at my very best, with the most spectacular production I’ve ever had, playing in places that have meant so much to me throughout my career,” he said.
“Whether it’s next summer in Frankfurt or at the legendary Dodger Stadium for the grand finale in the United States, I can’t wait to see you all on the road one last time.
“This has been an incredible tour so far, full of the most amazing highs, and I look forward to making more wonderful memories with you at these final shows. To all my friends down under, we’ll be seeing you too. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you in your town.”
Elton John’s farewell tour was scuppered by the coronavirus pandemic
John’s new UK tour dates will see him performing in Norwich, Liverpool, Sunderland, Bristol and Swansea in June 2022. He will then perform at venues across the United States in July of that year.
The singer’s farewell tour was originally scheduled to conclude at the O2 in London in December 2020, but that date was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour will now bow out with two dates in Auckland in January 2023.
Speaking in 2018 after announcing that his next tour would be his last, Elton John admitted his priorities in life had changed since he became a dad.
“I always thought I was going to be like Ray Charles, BB King – on the road forever,” he said at a press conference at the time.
However, he was quick to clarify that retiring from touring doesn’t mean he’s giving up all creative endeavours.
