‘Despicable’ thug jailed after brutally beating a trans woman and making her mop up her own blood
A man who brutally beat up a trans woman and made her mop up her own blood has been jailed for 16 months in Reading, England.
Suhel Sood, 34, attacked the victim at a party in November 2020 when a sexual encounter slipped into mayhem when he realised she was trans.
The Reading Crown Court heard on Monday (21 June) that he yelled, “You’re a man!”, as he switched on the lights, The Mirror reported.
He then pummelled her repeatedly and slammed her head on a washing machine. The attack left her with two black eyes and a bruise that stretched from her thigh to her knee.
Barking orders at her, Suhel Sood called her a “dog” as he forced her to clean up her own blood before letting her leave on 14 November.
He was cleared of sexual assault and jailed for 16 months after he admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
Attacker Suhel Sood thought he could be ‘contaminated’ by trans victim’s blood
The night of blood arose, prosecutor Oliver Weetch said, “entirely from Mr Sood discovering that [the victim] was transgender and thereafter assaulting her”.
While Tom Holmes, defending, urged judges not to sentence him on the basis he targeted the victim because she was trans.
“His behaviour on that night was of course despicable,” he said.
“It gives an impression of him as a reckless, aggressive and frankly unlikeable human being.”
Judge Emma Knott told Suhel Sood he was “partying in a garage with others” when the victim arrived, who came with her partner, a married man who left the party early.
“You were happy to entertain his girlfriend,” she said. “You were in the company of an attractive woman.”
“Things took a very ugly turn,” Knott said, when he discovered she was trans. “You were perhaps fuelled by whiskey and cocaine and flew into a rage.
“From that moment, you had no concern at all for the woman. You were concerned only by your own feelings.
“What you were concerned about was your reputation for fear of being a laughing stock.”
“This was a repeated and quite sustained assault,” she said, “it must have been.
“You have demonstrated no real remorse about your attack on her that night, particularly that element of you making her clean up her own blood.
“As if her transgender identity meant you would be contaminated by touching her own blood.”
Suhel Sood was cleared of sexual assault, false imprisonment, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm charges and threats to kill.
