Psychonauts 2 developer pokes fun at snowflakes and comes out swinging for game accessibility
Developer Double Fine has very vocally defended the accessibility options in forthcoming game Psychonauts 2.
The quirky platformer will feature an invincibility toggle to allow anyone of any skill level to complete the game.
The developer responded to a tweet from the official Xbox account that said: “Beating the game on the lowest difficulty is still beating the game.”
“If you beat Psychonauts 2 with the invincibility toggle on, you still beat P2,” responded Double Fine.

In a further thread, the developer noted the importance of accessibility options.
“All people should be able to enjoy games. All ages, all possible needs. It’s an ongoing and important process for our industry and a challenge we need to meet.
“End of the day? We want you to have fun, to laugh, to experience a story that affects you. On whatever terms you want.”
They also poked fun at the trolls, saying: “”uh, excuse me I beat Sword Guy Serious Time on a no hit hard mode and if didn’t do that I don’t respect you. and like, can you even comment on things if you’re not diamond six rank in shooty mcBlam? I don’t think so”
“cool bud. you’re soooo cool!”

The developer also confirmed that the mode won’t block achievements.
Awareness of accessibility options is becoming increasingly apparent in new video games.
Naughty Dog, developer of The Last of Us Part II, has been praised for their game’s wealth of accessibility options, marking a new gold standard for the industry.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart developer Insomniac also added plenty of accessibility features in the PlayStation 5 exclusive.
Psychonauts 2 is being published by Xbox Game Studios and will be released on Xbox consoles and PC, as well as PS4, on 25 August.
