Speedrunning gamers raise an incredible $2.8 million for charity in just one week
Speedrunning charity event Summer Games Done Quick 2021 has raised over $2.8 million for charity.
A week of 24 hour long streams raised the money for Médecins Sans Frontière.
The speedruns were streamed live on the Games Done Quick Twitch channel, with a video archive available on YouTube.
And that's a wrap! #SGDQ2021 has come to a close, and although we are sad that it's over, we are beyond joyful as we have raised a total amount of $2,897,704 for @MSF_USA! Thank you to all of our runners, and to you for your generosity and support!

The event brings together the best speedrunners from around the world to participate, covering a wide range of different video games that must be completed as quickly as possible.
There are other challenges too, and participants make use of gaming glitches and quirks along the way.
Usually the speedrunning event is in-person, but this year it was hosted virtually.
This time it included ZooKetra’s hilarious speed run of adorable DS game Nintendogs that was scuppered by a disobedient pup.
ZooKetra used short vowel sounds to cheat the voice recognition, instead of the usual “sit” and “stay” commands, but unfortunately his puppy kept getting stuck in tunnels in the agility contest. Bad boy!
Among plenty of others, there were also speed runs of Game Boy Advance classic Golden Sun: The Lost Age, PC title Gone Golfing, a cartridge-swapping run of the N64’s Paper Mario that showed off some other hilarious glitches, and geographical guessing game GeoGuessr.
Since 2010, Games Done Quick has raised over $31 million for various charities, including AbleGamers, Organization for Autism Research, Prevent Cancer Foundation, and Médecins Sans Frontière.
MSF provides medical care to those in need around the world following natural and man-made disasters.
The next event broadcast by Games Done Quick will be Flame Fatales, an all-women speedrunning event from 15 – 21 August. Check out the Twitter account for more information.
