Halo designer teases new Infinite multiplayer mode details

Back at E3, Xbox announced that the multiplayer mode of Halo Infinite will be free-to-play.
Now, new details have emerged in a developer interview with lead multiplayer designer Andrew Witts.
Asked what he felt fans would enjoy most about Halo Infinite multiplayer, he responded: “I think that they will really latch onto how much multiplayer feels like a celebration of Halo all up.
“We’ve done a lot of things to bring iconic Halo campaign moments into multiplayer. When we were designing anything, we were asking ourselves how this could be a treat for people who know Halo’s history.”
As a result, the multiplayer mode will include nods to various games in the series.
For instance, in Big Team Battle mode, weapon pods will fall from the sky similarly to the mission “Delta Halo” in Halo 2, but with the weighty impact of the Ordnance Pods in Halo 4.
“That’s just one example of the kinds of things that we’ve tried to put into multiplayer,” says Witts.
“There are tons of references to past Halos, including how we go inside the player’s helmet in the match intro like the opening cutscene from Halo: CE, to the designs for Eagle and Cobra Team’s logos like past Halos, to maintaining certain design language of our game mode objects like the Flag has a Skull on top and the Oddball is this sci-fi skull from hell.”
Halo Infinite multiplayer mode will feature a Mark System
The multiplayer will include classic modes like Capture the Flag, Slayer, Oddball and Big Team Battle, as well as modes new to Halo Infinite.
It will also feature a Mark System, similar to the pings in Apex Legends, where players can mark spots on the map for their teammates.
Witts and his team have also introduced Item Spawners that indicate where weapons spawn in the world. The weapon racks are inspired by the Halo 2 announcement trailer where Master Chief grabs a gun that comes out of a wall – another nod to the past.
Halo Infinite is due out this holiday season for Xbox consoles and PC, with an epic single player alongside multiplayer.
