Ariana Grande hops aboard the battle bus to headline Fortnite concert series

Ariana Grande Fortnite Rift Tour

Ariana Grande will headline Fortnite’s Rift Tour series of virtual concerts.

Both the mult-platinum popstar and the official Fortnite account shared the news on Twitter, with an animated video that introduces her digital avatar who’ll be performing.

It certainly has a very K-pop K/DA vibe. Either that or she’ll float down from the battle bus like a Final Fantasy summon.

The concerts will take place in-game from 6-8 August.

“Working with Epic and the Fortnite team to bring my music to life inside the game has been so fun and such an honour,” says Ariana. “I can’t wait to join my fans and see all of your reactions to such an unforgettable, magical journey to new realities.”

Fans are already speculating if any special guests will join, considering her collaborations with The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Lady Gaga and more.

Indeed, a Fortnite concert between Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga has been rumoured for a while.

The full list of concerts are:

  •     Show 1 | Friday, August 6 @ 11PM BST
  •     Show 2 | Saturday, August 7 @ 7PM BST
  •     Show 3 | Sunday, August 8 @ 5AM BST
  •     Show 4 | Sunday, August 8 @ 2PM BST
  •     Show 5 | Sunday, August 8 @ 11PM BST

Fortnite is free and available across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, PC, Mac and Android. It’s recommended you download the game in advance of the concerts and jump into the game at least 60 minutes before the shows begin.

Ariana Grande is by no means the first pop star to appear in the game

Last year rapper Travis Scott performed, drawing in more than 45 million viewers. Before that, the likes of Marshmello and Deadmau5 appeared and, most recently, Leicester indie band easy life became the first British band to perform in the game.

Ariana is arguably the biggest name to appear so far – if you’re planning to watch, prepare for any server issues due to high numbers of players (hence the multiple shows to give more players the chance to view).

And it’s not just Fortnite receiving gaming–music crossovers. Bebe Rexha recently performed in The Sims 4, while DJ and producer Porter Robinson hosted a Secret Sky virtual gig in VR.
