Five unmissable LGBT+ Amazon Prime shows to watch this August – including Kevin Can F**k Himself
This August sees much-anticipated TV shows being added to Amazon Prime Video.
Highlights include queer storylines in the anthology series Modern Love as well as shows featuring LGBT+ favourites Luke Evans, Nicole Kidman and her wigs and Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy.
All together there are five big series making their debut in the UK throughout August that are set to be your next go-to binge watch.
The new shows will be available to stream as part of an Amazon Prime Video subscription which costs £7.99 per month or £79.99 per year and comes with a 30-day free trial.

Cruel Summer
Cruel Summer is a 10-part teen drama meets 1990 psychological thriller and already has a cult following in the US since it aired in April 2021. The series takes place across three timelines in the mid-1990s, staring in 1993 when Kate, the most popular girl in school disappears without a trace. Following this the school’s shy wallflower, Jeanette begins to mould herself into Kate’s image to become the popular girl and is accused of being a part of the abduction. As the story unfolds it flips between Kate and Jeanette’s versions of events as their friends and schoolmates try to decide whose story to believe.
Viewers will also be pleased to know it’s already been renewed for a second season, while the first series premieres on Amazon Prime Video in the UK on 8 August.
DC’s Stargirl
DC’s Stargirl returns for a second series. It follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore, who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to take up the legacy of a long-lost superhero team – The Justice Society of America – and stop the villains of the past. Other comic book heroes who appear alongside Stargirl include Wildcat II, Doctor Mid-Nite II, Hourman II and S.T.R.I.PE., played by Like Wilson.
The first season received positive reviews and it will be back for 13 more episodes, premiering on 11 August on Amazon Prime Video – a day after its US air date.
Modern Love
The romantic anthology series is back for a second season on Amazon Prime Video. Based on the real-life stories from the popular New York Times column, the series follows tales of love and relationships with a star-studded cast including Kit Harington, Anna Paquin, Miranda Richardson, Sophie Okonedo and Minnie Driver. Plus it will also feature a queer storyline penned by gay actor Andrew Rannells, which is based on an essay he originally wrote for the column. It’s not yet known who’s appearing in which episode but gay stars Isaac Powell and James Scully will also be starring in an episode of the second season of Modern Love which premieres on 13 August.
Nine Perfect Strangers
Nicole Kidman fronts this adaption of the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, playing a wellness guru in another iconic wig. It follows nine strangers from the city who head to a retreat in the Australian outback as they attempt to get onto a better path of living, but they have no idea what’s about to him them. The star-studded cast features Luke Evans, Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall and Michael Shannon. The series is expected to have eight episode, with the first three dropping on 20 August on Amazon Prime Video so it’s a perfect weekend binge watch.
Kevin Can F**k Himself
Following her amazing breakthrough role as Alexis in Schitt’s Creek, Annie Murphy returns to front Kevin Can F**k Himself. The eight-part dark comedy follows the life of Allison McRoberts, a woman struggling to redefine her life amid an unhappy marriage to her immature and insensitive husband Kevin. The series is split between different experiences: half of her life is presented as a traditional multi camera sitcom – complete with canned laughter – and the other half is shot on a single camera with the gritty aesthetic of modern television shows. The trailer sets up an intriguing storyline and viewers can catch the premiere on Amazon Prime Video from 27 August.
