Famous friends and fans were living for the permanent proof of Martin and Page’s close friendship. Writer and director Travon Free said he was sad he “missed the tattoo party”.

“The fact that you’re buddies gives me so much life,” one fan wrote.

Another person commented that “only hot queer” Canadians “get matching tattoos with each other”.

The celebrations continued on Twitter with more fans declaring Elliot Page and Mae Martin to be the true definition of friendship goals.

Elliot Page and Mae Martin are close friends

Mae Martin, who came out as non-binary in April, told PinkNews that they “weirdly” met Elliot Page “in a bar when we were 19”. They said they were a “weird sort-of homeless stoner” at the time.

“Elliot was filming X-Men at the time, I think, and we had a mutual friend,” Martin said. “So we had that one night, and then years later Elliot sent me a message saying he’d seen my stand-up, and then we became friends.”

Before coming out publicly, Page sent Martin a “very inspiring and reassuring” message, which came as they were feeling “quite stressed” while filming the second season of Feel Good.

In July, the pair posted the same photo to Instagram of the two of them having a drink and hanging out.

“Reunion with true stud Elliot Page,” Martin wrote.

Page captioned his post: “Chilling with this heartthrob.

“PS I just finished season two of Feel Good on Netflix and if you haven’t watched yet it what are you doing?”

A short while later, Martin posted an outtake from the pair’s hangouts. They shared a picture of Page and Martin at a birthday celebration for comedian Tom Green.
