Macaulay Culkin just introduced ‘frottage’ and ‘angry tops’ to American Horror Story
Macaulay Culkin made his American Horror Story debut and it was a ride.
The Home Alone star surprised fans of the hit Ryan Murphy show when he was announced as its newest cast member. Though the super producer isn’t averse to stunt casting (hi, Kaia Gerber!), Culkin’s acting credits over the past decade have been few and far between.
But any trepidation around his suitability for the campy horror franchise were blown away on Wednesday (25 August).
Culkin instantly cemented his spot in the American Horror Story hall of fame by introducing frottage and “angry tops” within his first 30 seconds.
Culkin’s character, a sex worker named Mickey, arrived in the season premiere of American Horror Story: Double Feature (comprised of two stories: Red Tide, and later, Death Valley).
The episode followed a screenwriter, Harry (Finn Witrock), as he and his family (Lily Rabe and Ryan Kiera Armstrong) arrive in Provincetown, Massachussetts, for a three-month stay.
Harry is hoping to nail a pilot script, but is suffering from writers’ block. On a solo restaurant trip he’s approached by Mickey, who asks if he’d like to buy him a drink.
“I’m married. To a woman,” Harry says.
Micky replies: So are all my regulars. You strike me as an angry top.”
He advises Harry that he’d need to “glove up” were they to hook up.
“Unless you’re down for some frottage… It’s French for rubbing our d**ks together.”

Naturally, American Horror Story fans loved it.
Only Ryan Murphy can cast Macaulay Culkin and have his first few lines involve “frottage”. #AHSDoubleFeature— American Horror Source (@AHS_Source) August 26, 2021

Can we all agree that Macaulay Culkin killed it last night on #AHSDoubleFeature ??? He is the best addition to the show’s cast in years IMO. He’s always been a talented actor but last night really confirmed that I’m going to love him and his character all season long! pic.twitter.com/sSkdVWuePT— ❣️wren❣️| pretty.odd.fucking.weird (@SAWberpunk) August 26, 2021
The two-part season opener was widely hailed a return to form for American Horror Story.
Evan Peters and Frances Conroy won particular praise for their roles as a pair of mysterious writers whose hobbies include karaoke and – we presume – murder.

Sarah Paulson is back as a character dubbed Tuberculosis Karen. Need we say more?
The fact that we’re getting an entire season of Sarah Paulson just screaming, swearing and coughing for 6 episodes really speaks to me. #AHSDoubleFeature pic.twitter.com/Da8RX9vHyl— American Horror Source (@AHS_Source) August 26, 2021

Later in Red Tide we’ll meet returning favourites Angelica Ross as The Chemist and Denis O’Hare as Holden. After six episodes, the story will shift to Death Valley, with Paulson playing First Lady Mamie Eisenhower for what looks set to be an alien cover-up story.
American Horror Story is available on FX on Hulu in the US, and will stream on Disney Plus in the UK later this year.
