Billy Porter stuns on the Cinderella red carpet in an upcycled dress, and we truly can’t cope

Billy Porter attends the Los Angeles Premiere of Amazon Studios' "Cinderella" at The Greek Theatre on August 30, 2021 in Los Angeles, California.

Billy Porter stunned on the red carpet once again with a gorgeous ensemble made from upcycled materials, and we truly can’t cope.

The Pose star is well-known for his earth-shattering red carpet looks, and he well and truly stole the show at the premiere of his new film Cinderella on Monday (30 August).

Porter – who plays a genderless version of the fairy godmother in the Camilla Cabello fronted reboot – turned up to the Los Angeles premiere wearing a spectacular black and white ensemble designed by Mohamed Benchellal.

Benchellal is a Moroccan-born, Amsterdam-based designer who uses upcycled materials in his creations, according to Vogue. He made a name for himself by turning damaged military uniforms into ballgowns.

Billy Porter served a truly iconic look sporting a white skirt and black top at the Cinderella premiere. Naturally, his gorgeous outfit was finished off with a sweeping white train, a giant bow on his back, and white platform shoes.

Billy Porter is widely loved for his empowering, creative red carpet looks

The actor and Broadway legend has become well known for his gorgeous, creative red carpet looks in recent years.

In 2019, he famously turned up to the Academy Awards wearing a showstopping tuxedo ballgown. His pitch-perfect look completely stole the show and managed to overshadow every one else’s efforts.

The dress was, of course, also a source of controversy. He ignited the fury of conservatives when he dropped by Sesame Street wearing the fabulous gown.

If you thought it couldn’t get any better than that, you were wrong. That same year, Billy Porter turned up to the Met Gala with a high-camp Ancient Egypt-inspired look.

The actor, decked in gold jewels, wore a piece called “Sun God” designed by The Blonds. It featured a bejewelled catsuit and 10-foot wings.

To make it even better, he was carried into the Met Gala by six shirtless men – proving that he is the ultimate gay icon.

The star’s latest look came just days before his new film Cinderella arrives on Amazon Prime Video. The film – due for release on Friday (3 September) – sees Porter play a genderless version of the fairy godmother.

Speaking to CBS News last year, Porter said taking on the role was a “profound” moment for him because “magic has no gender”.

“We are presenting this character as genderless – at least that’s how I’m playing it. And it’s really powerful.”

The legendary signer and actor went on to say the “new generation” is “really ready” for a leading genderless figure, adding that it was “grown-ups” slowing progress down.

Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Pierce Brosnan, Nicholas Galitzine, Romesh Ranganathan, James Mulaney and James Corden also star in the Cinderella remake.

The film premieres worldwide on Amazon Prime Video from 3 September. To stream Cinderella head to amazon.com/primevideo.
