Top streamer Amouranth has no time for vile, abusive, sexist trolls and destroys them with a single word
Twitch streamer Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa expertly shut down trolls with a single word, and we salute her for it.
In a recent stream, she discussed the vile abuse she regularly receives from trolls.
“People always ask me: Amouranth how do you deal with so many haters all the time?” she said.
“Constantly on the internet, in chat and off platform, “I get called w***e, s**t, s***k, s**g, ugly, fat, stupid, b***h, but you know what they’ve never called me? Broke””
Amouranth is no stranger to courting controversy and regularly stretches the boundaries of Twitch terms of service.
Back in May, her hot tub streams were de-monetised and considered “not advertiser friendly”.
While not against Twitch terms of service, Amouranth believed her streams were unfairly targeted, likely due to her popularity on the platform.
More recently, she began ASMR streams that include licking microphones and wearing a horse mask – not inherently sexual content, but it could be misconstrued as such.
Kotaku even described her as “Twitch’s smartest troll”.
Regardless of controversy, she remains one of Twitch’s most popular streamers, with currently 4.2 million followers.
There’s no danger, then, of Amouranth going broke anytime soon as her fanbase continues to grow – despite the appalling abuse she’s received.
Sadly, the vile comments she regularly faces are a typical example of the type of abuse women receive online.
Female Twitch streamers face violent abuse almost on a daily basis, including body-shaming, stalking, and sexualisation.
One survey from earlier this year found that 59% of women hide their identity when playing games online.
Companies such as Fnatic and The*gameHERS are now finding ways to support women online, particularly in the typically male area of esports.
