Zendaya declares true feminism must include trans women: ‘That means all women’

Zendaya has said that true feminism must be intersectional and must include trans women.
The Euphoria star opened up about her view of contemporary feminist discourse in an interview with Vogue.
Zendaya, whose new film Dune just premiered at the Venice Film Festival, made it clear that feminism should be inclusive of “all women”.
Speaking to Vogue, Zendaya said true feminism must encompass “women that look like you, women who don’t look like you, women whose experiences are different than you.”
She continued: “That means Black women, that means trans women, that means all women.”

Zendaya made her comments in a wide-ranging interview which saw her reflect on her incredible career, from her Disney days right up to her award-winning turn in Euphoria.
In addition to her comments about feminism, Zendaya took the opportunity to reflect on how she put boundaries in place during her time on Disney series Shake It Up.
The Emmy-winning actor explained why she refused to kiss one of her co-stars on the show, revealing that she didn’t want her first kiss to take place on set.
“I remember being on Shake It Up and being like: ‘I’m not gonna do this. I’m going to kiss him on the cheek because I haven’t been kissed yet so I don’t want the kiss to be on camera,'” Zendaya said.
The actress has had a huge queer following for much of her career, but it was with her performance in Euphoria that she became a household name.
The HBO series helped Zendaya win her first Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series, making her the youngest actor to ever take home the award.
In February, she won the hearts of LGBT+ fans when she corrected a gendered question about what quality she “most likes in a man”.
The actor was asked the question as part of the “Proust Questionnaire” with Vanity Fair – and it didn’t take her too long to correct the phrasing.
When asked what “quality you most like in a man”, Zendaya replied: “I most like in a person, how about that?”
