Drag Race UK drops incredibly camp season three trailer and fans are divided

RuPaul dressed in a gold dress appears as judge on Drag Race

The first Drag Race UK season three trailer is here.

Drag Race grew into a global phenomenon for its glamour, opulence and devastating eleganza. Then, the UK version came along.

Now heading into its third season, we’ve grown to adore Drag Race UK for its camp humour and sometimes rough-around-the-edges drag. Of course, there’s a dollop of high fashion (hi Bimini!), but really, we’re here for the Kim Woodburn quips and Katie Price Snatch Games.

Fitting, then, that the first trailer for Drag Race UK season three is giving back-room-of-a-pub realness. We’re talking prawn rings (seriously), snooker ball headpieces and cheap bottles of cava.

The 40-second clip gives us a brief preview of the season to come, with an excitable Alan Carr promising: “This is gonna be so good!”

The 12 competing queens – and, for some reason, Judge Judy – appear with the help of some green screen magic, while RuPaul tells us: “Come as you are, or even better, come as you want to be.”

While anticipation for the new season is high, it’s fair to say the trailer received a mixed response.

Drag Race UK season 3 starts very soon

The trailer arrives just two weeks before season three lands on the BBC iPlayer.

The first episode will stream on 23 September from 7pm, with new episodes arriving weekly.

The BBC has already confirmed a gag-worthy crop of guest judges, including Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Mis-Teeq star Alesha Dixon.

They join the previously announced Matt Lucas (who’ll star in the premiere), Kathy Burke and Oti Mabuse.

As well, Drag Race UK season three will welcome special guests Steps, who’ll coach the queens for (presumably) a song and dance challenge, and camp icon Charity Shop Sue.

For the first time ever, Drag Race UK will welcome a female queen to the werk room: Victoria Scone, who also has the honour of being the first cis woman to compete in any Drag Race series anywhere in the world.

We’ll also get to meet Anubis Finch, Charity Kase, Choriza May, Elektra Fence, Ella Vaday, Kitty Scott-Claus, Krystal Versace, River Medway, Scarlett Harlett and Vanity Milan, and returning queen Veronica Green.
