Next Bayonetta 3 reveal is entirely in Nintendo’s hands, says creator Hideki Kiyama
Bayonetta series creator Hideki Kiyama is keen to show off the forthcoming third game but said “it’s not our decision what to say and when to say it.”
The game is much-anticipated, especially by LGBT+ fans of the sassy witch, after it was first teased in December 2017 but nothing has been shown of it since.
Earlier this year, Kiyama appeared to tease information on a reveal some time in 2021. He’s now told VGC: “It was more of a not definitely ‘something will come out this year’, but if there is a year, then something should happen, right?”
He continued: “If you remember last time, I said that even though everyone was asking about Bayonetta 3, maybe you should tell everyone to forget about it for a while. I kind of need to keep to that stance for now because ultimately, it’s not our decision what to say and when to say it.”
Atsushi Inaba, studio head of developer PlatinumGames, added: “There’s no need to worry. Don’t worry about it at this time. Everything’s OK.”
Nintendo will be publishing the Switch game and, following a no-show at E3 this year, reassured the public by confirming the game is progressing well.
Kamiya told VGC it’s Nintendo’s decision on when to give an update on the game.
“As much as everyone is clamouring to see it, we are really, really waiting to release it too,” he said. “Everyone who is working on the project is of course very proud of what we’re doing and wants everyone to see what we’re doing.
“As much as fans are waiting for it, we are waiting for the day when we can show it. We want everyone to cheer us on as we run to the final stretch. We want to show it too!”
Fans of the game may want to keep an eye on Project Eve, the forthcoming PlayStation 5 title shown at the recent PlayStation Showcase.
With its sassy heroine and frenetic action, it shares some similarities with the Platinum title.
