Octavia Spencer apologises to Britney Spears for saying fiancé needs to ‘sign a prenup’
Octavia Spencer has apologised to Britney Spears after suggesting she should make her fiancé Sam Asghari sign a prenuptial agreement.
Spencer’s “make him sign a prenup” comment on Britney’s engagement Instagram post went viral earlier this week.
But looking back, Spencer said the joke was one she regrets – she doesn’t want to add to the “pain” the couple has weathered in recent years.
“Y’all, a few days ago, Sam and Britney announced their engagement, and me being me, I made a joke,” the 51-year-old wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday (15 September).
“My intention was to make them laugh and not cause pain. I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately and to apologise and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of.

“Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We’re thrilled for her.
“So let’s show them love. #NoNegativity.”
Sam Asghari assures there are ‘no hard feelings’ over Octavia Spencer prenup joke
Sam Asghari commented on her post, writing: “You are very kind to clarify, but I have no hard feelings whatsoever.
“Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory.”
Asghari, who had been dating Britney for more than four years, had joked about getting an “ironclad” prenup to protect their personal assets before tying the knot.
“Thank you for everyone who is concerned about the prenup,” the model wrote in an Instagram post Monday (13 September).
“Of course, we’re getting an ironclad prenup to protect my Jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day.”
Britney, 39, met Asghari in 2016 while shooting for a music video.
In a possible sign of change for the popstar – considering she recently claimed her court-ordered conservatorship was blocking her from marrying Asghari – she announced her engagement Monday.
“Words can’t even say how shocked I am,” Britney wrote in the announcement. “I’m so blessed it’s insane.”
