Streamers organise Leather Pride Weekend to bring Folsom Street Fair kink and fetish vibes to Twitch
Streamers are organising a leather weekend on Twitch this weekend, because why not?
Inspired by the Folsom Street Fairs held in Berlin and San Francisco in September, two Twitch streamers are bringing the community together online.
The Leather Pride Weekend will take place from 24 September to 26 September, with streamers encouraged to wear their gear on-stream with pride – within Twitch terms of service of course.
Streamers will celebrate leather diversity, culture and community through offering support, resources, education, advocacy and visibility for Leather, BDSM, Kink and Alternative Lifestyles.
It’s not just leather, but all sorts of gear – from lycra to lace and everything in between – and streamers will be promoting the event using #TwitchLeatherWeekend.
“It was all about creating visibility and showing that kink creators and their communities have a space on Twitch,” says streamer DCypherPup, who organised the event with Dawgnet.
“Both DawgNet and I agree that visibility is extremely important when it comes to not only giving people the permission to express themselves but also to explore their interests in kink and fetish.”
He continues: “During the pandemic, Twitch has become a safe haven for members both a part of the LGBTQIA2S+ communities and those who support them. Especially since the usual safe spaces such as bars and clubs have become unavailable as of late.
“As a result of this online movement, new communities have flourished and the Leather/Fetish/Kink communities are no exception to this.”
Minority communities are currently experiencing hate raids across Twitch, but the Leather Pride Weekend will continue defiantly.
“Even though it makes us a greater target for those who would wish us harm, it ensures that our corner of the platform stays with us so we can help it grow into a space where like-minded individuals can come together and be welcomed,” says DCypherPup.
