Playboy breaks new ground with first gay male cover star Bretman Rock: ‘I’m a Playboy bunny, duh’
Bretman Rock has made history as the first out gay man to appear on the cover of Playboy magazine, in bunny ears and a killer pair of heels.
The 23-year-old social media influencer appears on the magazine’s October digital cover dressed as a Playboy bunny in lingerie and towering platforms, not to mention a bowtie and bunny ears.
He follows in the footsteps of Kate Moss, Dolly Parton and Kylie Jenner in wearing the famous outfit on the cover.
Rock, who is Filipino-American, rose to fame as a YouTube beauty influencer. He also starred in his a recent reality MTV show about his life called MTV Following: Bretman Rock.
Speaking about the shoot, he said: “For Playboy to have a male on the cover is a huge deal for the LGBT community, for my brown people community and it’s all so surreal. A total ‘is this even f***ing happening right now?’ type of vibe. And I’m so pretty.”
He celebrated his groundbreaking cover appearance on Twitter in typically light-hearted style, tweeting: “I’m a Playboy bunny DUHHHHHH,” which went viral with over 12,000 retweets.

Rock is the third man to appear solo on the magazine’s cover, following the late Hugh Heffner and musician and LGBT+ ally Bad Bunny, who graced the first digital cover of Playboy in 2020.
The magazine closed its print edition in 2020 after COVID-19 “accelerated” plans to go fully digital.
This mean that an edition guest-edited by actor and activist Jameela Jamil became, unintentionally, its final physical issue.
After Bretman Rock’s cover was unveiled fans went wild, tweeting scores of congratulatory comments, with one saying: “Game changer. Opening the way for many others. Thank you.”
Another thoroughly gagged follower just said: “BRETMAN HOW CAN YOU LOOK THE WAY YOU DO ALL THE TIME.”
And one person had the last word by saying: “Playmate of the year tbh.”
